Alena Henessey: Cultivating the Creative Life
In this workshop we will be exploring our inherent creative nature and voice. Based partly on Alena's new book, Cultivating Your Creative Life: How to Find Beauty, Balance and Success as an Artist, this workshop will delve into manifesting joy through artistic play and expression. Part of the class will be outside where holistic health practices and simple stretches, breath work techniques will be explored. Through journaling, each student will free write and sketch to begin the creative flow. Back in the classroom, we will explore working with different mediums. Pen, ink and acrylic paints, along with any found objects brought to class or found outside may be used. You can choose to work as simple or layered as you would like. Alena will demonstrate ideas to how to begin a composition through sketches, such as understanding the elements and principles of art and techniques and how to use those in your art piece. How to see an object and techniques to draw it will also be demonstrated. A strong focus on automatic/intuitive drawing and painting will be an instrumental part of the class. Understanding color through color theory will also be explored. Painting techniques with acrylics or pen and ink will be also be demonstrated. Most importantly, this class will be about creating a few pieces of art where you can truly enjoy the process of art making. It will be exploratory in nature, where you will begin to find a fresh creative voice within. The works you take home will be symbolic and hold whatever intention you wish to set forth in your life.
