Explore the personal and storied art of calligraphy in this course, which is geared to the needs of each student. Beginners work with a basic calligraphic hand, while intermediate and advanced students pursue their choice of styles. Individual guidance provided for each student.

Instructor -- Myrna Rosen
MYRNA ROSEN is an adjunct professor at Carnegie Mellon University. In addition, she has been on the faculty of six International Lettering Arts conferences, and has taught at the Center for over 25 years. She is a founding member of the Calligraphy Guild of Pittsburgh, and exhibits work nationally and internationally.

Required supplies for this class:
  • T-Square – 24” metal
  • Bond tablet – 19”x24” – Paris Bleedproof
  • C-Series Speedball nibs (#0, #1, #2, #3) – left handed nibs are available
  • (1) B-2 nib
  • Mitchell Roundhand nib 3 – 3 ½ – 4 mm (available at CMU art store or catalog)
  • 2 – 6 holders (no cork holders) – test holders for comfort in your hand
  • Plastic eraser
  • Higgins Eternal Black Ink
  • Pencil – H or 2H
  • Masking tape
  • 1 pointed nib, Gillott 303, 404, Hunt 56, 101 or other
  • 1 tube gouache, your choice of color – Windsor and Newton brand ONLY
  • Optional to purchase:
  • ½ inch Speedball steel brush or ½ inch Coit wide pen or ½ automatic
