These interactive classes will help prepare you and your support person(s) for the labor and birth process. You will also learn how to take care of yourself and your new baby after the birth. Topics include: breathing and relaxation techniques, stages of labor and the birth process, cesarean birth preparation and mother care after delivery, comfort measures and pain management options, newborns and how to care for your new baby, feeding your baby, parenting skills, and role of the support person.
- Register for the class early in your fifth month of pregnancy; plan to take the class during your seventh or eighth month of pregnancy; and plan to finish your class series at least three weeks before your due date. The cost for the class of $70.00 includes you and your main support person. Scholarships are available for moms on Oregon Health Plan and/or the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. Instructor -- Lani Kelley RN
Lani has Bachelors' degrees in both Nursing and Biology, and a background in labor and delivery nursing. She has instructor certifications in Lamaze, Basic Life Support, Tobacco Cessation, and Brain Agility, and teaches classes for both Community Education and Staff Education at Salem Hospital.
- Wear comfortable clothing and bring two pillows to class.
