This class is in two parts: CPR/AED in the morning ($40), and Basic First Aid in the afternoon ($40). You must sign up for each part of the class separately

Heartsaver CPR with AED and Basic First Aid is intended for those who have a duty to respond as a first responder to an emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements. The CPR/AED portion of the class covers infant, child and adult resuscitation.

This course trains individuals to respond to emergencies, identify life-threatening conditions, provide care, control bleeding, prevent injuries, and to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This seven and one-half hours class meets current ECC guidelines. Students are assessed by each skill demonstrated and must pass a written exam. Successful completion certifies the student in Adult CPR/AED for one year and First Aid for three years.

This class is sponsored by Salem Health and taught by instructors from the Willamette Chapter of the American Red Cross.
  • If you only need a CPR card, you should register for "Adult CPR and AED".
Required supplies for this program:
  • The American Heart Association requires each participant to bring a current Heartsaver manual with them to class. It is very important that you read the manual prior to attending the class.
  • The 2005 Edition Heartsaver CPR with AED and Heartsaver First Aid w/CPR & AED Manual may be purchased from one of the following vendors (prices and shipping may vary), or may be purchased from Salem Hospital Education Services (503-561-5639) for an additional $15. The same manual is used for both CPR and first aid. If you purchase from the Hospital, the manual will be mailed to you.

Things you need to know:

Bad weather - We generally follow the Salem-Keizer School District. If Salem-Keizer Schools close due to weather, most likely any CHEC classes that day will be canceled. If you're not sure, please call 503-814-2432 to find out. But no matter what, if you don't feel safe driving, please stay home: we'd rather have you miss a class than risk hazardous roads and sidewalks!

Cancellation - If Salem Health cancels a class, a full refund or a class transfer will be issued.

Withdrawal - If you notify us at least 7 days before the start of a class or session that you can't attend, we will give you a full refund.

Medical Refund - A full refund will be issued if an illness or injury causes you to miss a class or part of a class. A note from your physician may be needed to get a medical refund.

Refund checks will be mailed, which takes about 3 weeks. Cash refunds are not available.
