Heartsaver CPR with AED and Basic First Aid is intended for those who have a duty to respond as a first responder to an emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements.

Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use.

♥ The American Heart Association requires each participant to bring a current Heartsaver manual with them to class. The cost of the class includes a manual, which will be mailed to you - when you register please provide an accurate mailing address. It is very important that you read the manual prior to attending the class.

♥ If you register less than 5 working days before the class there will not be time to mail the manual to you - you will have to come to the CHEC in Building D on the Salem Hospital campus, and pick one up.

After successful completion of the course you will receive an American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid and CPR/AED card which includes Adult, Child and Infant. The card is good for 2 years.

Salem Health employees may take this class for half price. Please call the CHEC at 503-814-2432 and tell us you are a hospital employee when you register.
  • Note: If you are a physician, nurse, EMT, paramedic, CNA or other healthcare professional who needs a CPR card, this is not the class you should take. Please contact Staff Education at 503-561-5639 and ask about a Healthcare Provider CPR course.

Things you need to know:

Pre-registration is required for most Salem Hospital classes. We sometimes have to cancel classes because there aren't enough people registered. Please don't wait until the last minute to register - you may find the class has been cancelled!

Bad weather - We generally follow the Salem-Keizer School District. If Salem-Keizer Schools close due to weather, most likely any CHEC classes that day will be canceled. If you're not sure, please call 503-814-2432 to find out. But no matter what, if you don't feel safe driving, please stay home: we'd rather have you miss a class than risk hazardous roads and sidewalks!

Cancellation - If Salem Health cancels a class, a full refund or a class transfer will be issued.

Withdrawal - If you notify us at least 7 days before the start of a class or session that you can't attend, we will give you a full refund.

Medical Refund - A full refund will be issued if an illness or injury causes you to miss a class or part of a class. A note from your physician may be needed to get a medical refund.

Refund checks will be mailed, which takes about 3 weeks. Cash refunds are not available.
