Modern Dance is a form that encompasses traditional ballet technique as well as an expanded movement vocabulary for the torso and limbs. Improvisational and compositional skills are developed to encourage creativity and expression. Classes integrate various traditional disciplines of modern dance foundations with current contemporary styles. In addition, some improvisational and compositional skills are developed to encourage creativity and expression. These classes are for dancers who like physical complicated floor work, patterns of movement and self-expression.
Attire: Form-fitting dance wear such as a leotard and footless tights or a dance tank top with dance pants/leggings/dance shorts. Bare feet.

Sage Teaches: Dance and Theater
Sage Ulrich has been dancing since age four and has studied and performed with 171 Cedar Arts Center from childhood through to high school graduation. Performing and choreographing extensively throughout college, Sage graduated with a Bachelors in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Dance from Sarah Lawrence College in 2019. Sage has been teaching dance and art for the Summer Camp programs at 171 since 2017.
