Modern Dance is a form that encompasses traditional ballet technique as well as an expanded movement vocabulary for the torso and limbs. Improvisational and compositional skills are developed to encourage creativity and expression. Classes integrate various traditional disciplines of modern dance foundations with current contemporary styles. In addition, some improvisational and compositional skills are developed to encourage creativity and expression. These classes are for dancers who like physical complicated floor work, patterns of movement and self-expression.

Attire: Form-fitting dance wear such as a leotard and footless tights or a dance tank top with dance pants/leggings/dance shorts. Bare feet.

Beth Teaches: Modern and Tap

Beth Hesch is a 2003 graduate of the State University of New York College at Brockport with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in dance. She has been fortunate enough to work with the American Dance Asylum, the Limon Dance Company, former Bill T. Jones dancer, Larry Goldhuber, and members of the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange. Beth has also had the opportunity to perform in venues such as Virginia Commonwealth University, Hobart & William Smith College, The Eastman School of Music, and The Yard, a performing arts colony in Massachusetts. Along with performing, Beth also enjoys choreographing and working with the students at Campbell-Savona Central Schools, where she is the drama club’s resident choreographer. Beth currently teaches modern and tap techniques at 171, and loves sharing her passion for dance with all of her students!
