Family Improv Comedy Workshop with Tim Collins

Interested in acting and comedy? Learn some improvisation fun with nationally touring solo theater artist Tim Collins.
You and your family can try out a range of exciting and engaging acting and improv games in this inviting, no-pressure workshop. You’ll create hilarious characters and scenes, one your public speaking skills, practice ways to eliminate stage fright, increase self-confidence, find new ways to communicate and connect with family members, and, above all, have fun!! For the whole family: siblings, parents, and guardians are all welcome.

This workshop is ideal for all levels of improvisation/acting experience for ages 9 and up!

Tim Teaches: Theater and Creative Writing

Tim Collins has been working as an actor, writer, and educator since 2000 and has performed his solo shows nationwide for more than 1,000,000 students, parents, educators, and military personnel.

He is a recipient of the Wallis Foundation Grant, a Roblee Grant, a Missouri Department of Mental Health Grant, multiple grants from the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, and has received grant support from the Triangle Fund, the Anderson Foundation, and the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning.

Tim has partnered with numerous violence prevention agencies across the country, including Abby’s Paws for A Cause (NY), Sexual Assault Resource Center (NY), RESTORE (NY), Crisis Intervention Service (IA), Planned Parenthood (NY, MT, MO), Sexual Assault Support Services of Midcoast Maine (ME), A Call for Help (IL), YWCA (NY, MO), Provident (MO), Safe Connections (MO), Women’s Freedom Center (VT), West River Valley Thrives (VT), Community Action Partnership (NY), Teen Pregnancy Prevention Partnership (MO), and many others.

Tim was a featured performer at the 24th Annual Sharing The Fire National Storytelling Conference; was nominated for a Kevin Kline Award; won the Best Solo Performance award in the 2nd Annual Dialogue ONE Solo Theater Festival; was awarded Best Dramatic Script in the 2012 United Solo Theater Festival and Best Educational Show in the 2013 United Solo Theater Festival; is a member of the United Solo Performer Academy; has performed his shows in the NYC International Fringe Festival and the Women At Work Festival (Stage Left NYC); is a three-time winner of the 15 Minute Playwriting Festival (Belfast, Maine); was a featured performer in the M-W Cares Educational Speakers Day at Monroe-Woodbury High School, Central Valley, NY; was a featured performer in the 3Rs (Respect, Reflect, Remember) Day at Fieldstone Middle School in Montvale, NJ; was twice nominated for a Program Excellence Award by the Chemung County Youth Bureau, NY. He has performed his violence prevention shows at schools, colleges, and military bases across the country, including the Rochester Institute of Technology, SUNY Geneseo, Fordham University, Webster University, University of Houston-Victoria, Porter Youth Center, Bennington College, the College at Brockport, North Rockland Central School District, Iowa Lakes Community College, North Iowa Area Community College, Milliken University, Saint Louis University, Maryville University, Washington University, UMSL, Fontbonne University, Lewis and Clark College, USAG Presidio of Monterey, Joint Base Langley Eustis, University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, and many others.

Tim has partnered extensively with agencies, organizations schools, and colleges in Chemung and Steuben County to provide performances and enriching workshop sessions to students of all ages. Partners include: Abby’s Paws for a Cause, Steele Memorial Library, Southside Community Center, ARCADE/Apex Programs and the Elmira City School District, Chemung County Youth Bureau, Southeast Steuben County Library, Elmira College, Corning Community College, the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning, SafeZones, ELNOST, Community Arts of Elmira, Air Clubhouse and CASA-Trinity, Triangle Fund, Anderson Foundation, Career Development Council, and others.

Tim has written and toured fifteen one-man plays, has been published in both PLAYS AND PLAYWRIGHTS and Indie Theater Now, and has appeared on ABC News, YNN News, TWC News, WETM, and NPR. He studied Theater and Acting at Marlboro College, VT, and Arts Ed UK, London.
