Fall into watercolor in Beginning Watercolor Painting at 171! Watercolor is vibrant, magical, and transparent, so you are sure to have fun creating with instructor Beth Landin in this six-week course. You will learn about watercolor supplies, color theory and mixing colors, brush techniques, washes of color, transparent layers, painting wet-on-wet & wet-on-dry, and how to create textures.

 
Students will complete the class with a strong foundation and skills to take their watercolor paintings to the next level! All supplies are included.

“I love the indescribable magic that comes from creating art! I find inspiration in unique perspectives, the interaction of light and color, interesting people, and the beauty of nature.”

Beth paints in watercolor, acrylic, and oil, creates enameled, fused, and sandblasted glass art, and enjoys hand-building in ceramics.  Her paintings range from contemporary representational work to abstract landscapes and figures. Beth studied painting and ceramics at 171 Cedar Arts Center, with the Elmira Regional Arts Society, at the University of Mary Washington, and in Seoul, Korea. Beth feels fortunate to have had great art instructors including Bridget Bossart van Otterloo, Wilson Ong, Lana Primavera, Bill Vrscak, Ivy Stevens Gupta, and Denise Stillwagon Leone, among others. She has exhibited her work regionally in at the Houghton Gallery at 171 Cedar Arts, The Evelyn Peacock Peeler Gallery at the ARTs Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, at the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira, and in the Palettes of Hammondsport exhibition. Her watercolor, “80 East” won the coveted Palette Award at the ERAS Palette Exhibition at the Arnot Art Museum in 2020. She also received Honorable Mention awards at Palette Exhibitions in 2018 and 2022 for “Jonagold” (watercolor) and “Emerald City” (acrylic), respectively. Beth has also exhibited in various public venues in upstate New York with the Elmira Regional Arts Society and has sold her work throughout the U.S.

Beth is the founder and an administrator of Urban Sketchers Corning and previously served as Executive Director of 171 Cedar Arts Center.

Beth’s work can be found at the Glass Menagerie Gallery on Market Street in Corning, NY. Most days, you can find Beth painting in her studio in downtown Corning!
