Ceramics Handbuilding Construction and Form with Kate (Heiman) Buzzell. In this hand-building class, Kate will focus on template design while utilizing soft and hard slab construction, slump, and hump molds, and pinch and coil techniques. Students will learn the following: rolling out slabs by hand and using the slab roller, the use of template design for hard slab construction, use of extruder to create shapes, coils, handles and more, stamps and rollers to add texture to soft slab construction, underglaze and glaze decoration.

Prior clay experience suggested but not required!

All supplies are included in the cost of your class. All you have to bring is your creativity and desire to learn something new!

Kate Buzzell

Kate Teaches: Art, Ceramics, Summer Camps, and Outreach Programs

Kate (Heiman) Buzzell is a mixed-media contemporary sculptor, ceramicist, jewelry designer, and 171 Cedar Arts Center’s gallery assistant.  She graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Concentration in Ceramics. After college, Kate moved to Los Angeles where she put her sculpting and design skills toward creating unique music videos before going to Atlanta and working in the Atlanta film industry as a sculptor and set decorator. She enjoys using mixed media to combine realism and abstraction to demonstrate the relationship between the beauty of our world and our imaginations.
