Fencing - Ages 8-11 is a fundamentals class for beginner fencers. This FUN class will focus on the basic skills of the sport: etiquette, form, and bouting rules. Coach Kylan Ames will help beginner fencers learn the origins of this exciting sport. Fencing helps develop physical agility, hand-eye coordination, grace, balance, and mental focus. This group class will include warm up, stretching, sabre footwork, drills, and bouting. You will get a great workout and have a lot of fun! Please note: All fencing gear including a jacket, glove, mask, and saber weapon are included.
Please wear long pants, sweatpants, leggings (active wear) and white-soled sneakers (this helps us preserve our floor.) No jeans or slacks. Bring a filled water bottle and a small towel.
Kylan Ames
Kylan Ames began fencing as a high school student on Long Island when he picked up the sport of Olympic Fencing. Fencing was the most successful sport in the school’s history and has produced many NCAA athletes, even some Olympians. While attending RIT in Rochester, NY, Kylan joined the fencing club and helped the club become successful. When he came to the Corning area for work, he began fencing at 171 and has been an assistant coach to Jason Wolff for the last three years. Kylan is a certified fencing referee with USA Fencing.
