Beth Landin, Art Instructor
“I love the indescribable magic that comes from creating art! I find inspiration in unique perspectives, the interaction of light and color, interesting people, and the beauty of nature.”
Corning-based artist, Beth Landin, is best known for her watercolor paintings, but she also paints in acrylics, oil, and encaustics, and creates enameled, fused, and sandblasted glass art that incorporates her paintings and photographs. Her images range from contemporary representational work to abstract landscapes and figures. Beth also enjoys hand building functional pieces in ceramics. Beth studied painting at 171 Cedar Arts Center and at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA (although she majored in economics). She trains in glass art at the Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY. Beth feels fortunate to have had great art instructors including Bridget Bossart van Otterloo, Wilson Ong, Lana Primavera, Bill Vrscak, Mick McAndrews, and Denise Stillwagon Leone, among others.
She has exhibited her work regionally in juried exhibitions and invitationals at the Houghton Gallery at 171 Cedar Arts Center, The Evelyn Peacock Peeler Gallery at the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, the Arnot Art Museum, and the Palettes of Hammondsport exhibition. Her watercolors, “Dawn” (2024) and “80 East” (2020) won the coveted Palette Award at the Elmira Regional Art Society’s Annual Palette Exhibitions at the Arnot Art Museum. She also received Honorable Mention awards at Palette Exhibitions for her acrylic painting, “Emerald City Poppies” (2022) and for her watercolor painting, “Jonagold” (2018). Beth has also exhibited in various public venues in upstate New York with the Elmira Regional Arts Society and has sold her work to collectors throughout the U.S. She is represented by the Glass Menagerie Gallery in Corning, NY.
Beth teaches art at 171 Cedar Arts Center, where she served as Executive Director from 2018 – 2023. She also serves as Program Coordinator for the Elmira Regional Art Society.
