Intro to Embroidery | Fall 1

Discover the relaxing art of hand embroidery in this 7-week beginner class with artist and instructor, Becky McNeill. You’ll learn six essential stitches—running stitch, back stitch, stem stitch, split stitch, chain stitch, and satin stitch—while working on a beautiful sampler pattern designed exclusively for this class. Your project can be stitched in warm floral tones or cool, wintry shades to create either a flower or a snowflake. While some work at home may be needed to finish on time, you’ll receive step-by-step guidance each week to help you succeed. By the end of the course, you’ll have a unique, piece framed in an embroidery hoop—ready to display in your home or give as a handmade gift.

McNeill, Rebecca
Rebecca McNeill

Becky McNeill is a self-taught modern improvisational quilt artist whose quilts have shown in fine art galleries and exhibitions across the country. Her work is known for its vibrant color palettes, bold geometric patterns, aspirational messages, and stories conveyed through the use of shape and hue. As part of her creative process, McNeill also embroiders and paints. Becky's embroidery incorporates many traditional stitches using patterns that she has designed. Her paintings are in a loose, whimsical style that brings relaxation and joy to her workflow. The playfulness of her painting is a counterbalance to the precision and intricacy of her quilting work. She is a member of the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, Studio Art Quilt Associates, and the Modern Quilt Guild. Her work can be found at Finger Lakes Unique on Market Street and by commission on a limited basis via her website.
