Fencing - Beginner/Intermediate is a fundamentals class for students ages 12 – adult. The class will focus on the basics of the sport including etiquette, form, and bouting rules with an emphasis on developing strong blade work, footwork, and tempo. Coach Jason Wolff will help students learn the origins of this exciting sport. Fencing helps develop physical agility, hand-eye coordination, grace, balance, and mental focus. All group classes will include warm-up, stretching, footwork, drills, and bouting. You will get a great workout and have a lot of fun! Please note: All fencing gear including a jacket, glove, mask, and saber weapon is provided.
Please, wear long pants, sweatpants, leggings (active wear), and sneakers. No jeans, no slacks. Bring a filled water bottle and small towel.
Jason Wolff
Jason Teaches: Fencing & Ceramics
Jason Wolff serves as the head of 171’s fencing department where he teaches students of all levels. Previously, Wolff has coached at the high school and university levels and was the Assistant Athletic Director and Saber Coach at Columbus Fencing & Fitness (Ohio). He has successfully trained students for regional, national, and international cadet competitions such as the US Nationals, the European Cup, and the World Championships. Former students of his have gone on to join top NCAA fencing teams at Columbia University, Ohio State, and Penn State.
