Dance Making for Teens

In this summer camp offering with Sage Ulrich, dancers will learn tools, strategies, games, and techniques to create their own dances to perform by the end of the session. Sessions will begin with a contemporary dance warm up, incorporate improvisation for dance making, and expose dancers to various elements of choreography through different exercises and lessons. A dance showcase of all of the pieces made throughout the week will be held in the Drake House Studio Theater at the end of the day on Friday.
Packing list: Dancers should wear comfortable dance attire. Dance shoes are not required. Bring a light healthy snack for breaks and be sure to have a water bottle!

Sage Teaches: Dance and Theater
Sage has been dancing since age four and has studied and performed with 171 Cedar Arts Center from childhood through to high school graduation. Performing and choreographing extensively throughout college, Sage graduated with a Bachelors’ in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Dance from Sarah Lawrence College in 2019. Sage has been teaching dance and art for the Summer Camp programs at 171 since 2017, joined 171's Dance Faculty in 2023, and assumed a full time position as Finn Academy's Dance Teacher in Elmira in 2025.
