Explore the wonderful world of watercolor with instructor Beth Landin!

This class is for varied ability levels and is designed to meet students where they are. If you're more experienced and need some additional guidance and a quiet, focused time to work, this class is for you! Are you relatively new to watercolor painting? Beth will guide you further into the medium of watercolor. The first few classes will begin with demos and then class projects that will include still life and landscape painting. You will learn to create beautiful washes of color and transparent layers, brush techniques, and how to paint reflections and textures, among other skills. The following sessions will allow students to work on a project of their choosing, with guidance from Beth.

All supplies are included.

Beth Landin

Corning, New York, artist Beth Landin is best known for her luminous watercolor paintings, while her diverse practice also includes acrylic, oil, encaustic, and mixed-media works, as well as enameled, fused, and sandblasted glass that often incorporates her original paintings and photography. Her work ranges from contemporary representational imagery to expressive abstract landscapes and figures, reflecting a lifelong fascination with light, color, and the natural world.

Beth pursued her passion for art through years of dedicated study at 171 Cedar Arts Center and with nationally recognized instructors including Bridget Bossart van Otterloo, Mick McAndrews, Wilson Ong, Joel Popadics, Lana Privitera, and Bill Vrscak, among others. She has also studied glass art at The Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass, where she expanded her exploration of painting through the medium of glass.

Beth's work has been featured in juried and invitational exhibitions throughout New York's Southern Finger Lakes region, including the Houghton Gallery at 171 Cedar Arts Center, the Evelyn Peacock Peeler Gallery at the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes, the Arnot Art Museum, and the Palettes of Keuka exhibition in Hammondsport. In 2025, she presented a solo exhibition, Seeking Serenity, at the Chenango Arts Council in Norwich, New York. Beth’s studio is featured during the annual Arts in Bloom Studio Tour in Steuben and Chemung Counties.

Her watercolor paintings Through Quiet Waters (2025), Dawn (2024), and 80 East (2020) each received the prestigious Best in Show Palette Award at the Elmira Regional Art Society's Annual Palette Exhibition at the Arnot Art Museum. She also earned Honorable Mention awards for her acrylic painting Emerald City Poppies (2022) and her watercolor Jonagold (2018). Her artwork has found homes with collectors throughout the United States, France, Italy, Japan, and Switzerland, and she is represented by Glass Menagerie Gallery in Corning, New York.

In addition to her studio practice, Beth is dedicated to fostering the arts in her community. She teaches painting at 171 Cedar Arts Center, where she served as Executive Director from 2018 to 2023, and currently serves as Program Coordinator for the Elmira Regional Art Society. She is also the founder and an administrator of Urban Sketchers Corning. Most days, she can be found painting in her Market Street studio, continually exploring new ways to capture the beauty and wonder of the world around her.
