Revisiting Ken Burns’ Epic "Civil War" (In-Person)

Fall (14 hours or more) | Available (Membership Required)

In 1990 Ken Burns became the most acclaimed documentarian with his magnum opus The Civil War. Now, some 34 years later, is America on the precipice of another such conflagration?

Let us explore this series with our fresh eyes of 2024 and compare it to the present, look at its values, and decide if history changes from the time and place you view it. Let us try and go behind the series and look at what was left on the cutting room floor. Let us also explore the question and determine if a vocal minority of our citizens initiated the war.

The big question is, of course, in 1861 did most Americans care about the issue of slavery? These are not easy questions, and may not have answers, but let us together investigate this issue.

Film will be used to facilitate discussions between all participants.
