Israel: A Lesson in Democracy (In-Person)

Fall (4-8 hours) | Available (Membership Required)

Since the inception of Netanyahu’s sixth administration in January 2023, Israel has been embroiled in significant turmoil relating to the attempt of the government to reform the judicial system. This attempt is viewed by many not as a “reform” but, rather, as a constitutional “revolution” that will undermine Israel’s democracy and turn it to an autocracy.

The course will delve into the complexities of Israel’s democracy, its social dynamics, and the ongoing struggle to maintain democratic values. It will also tie in the current Middle East war into this struggle. Through lectures, discussions, and analysis, the participants will gain insights into the Israeli political landscape and the broader implications for democratic governance.

The course will be interactive, and will encourage group discussion, which will add the American perspective to the “fight” for democracy. There will be some reading, which will be sent out prior to the beginning of the course.

This course will combine lecture with class discussions.
