Exploring Hanover’s Conserved Lands (Zoom)

Fall (14 hours or more) | Available (Membership Required)

Since its founding in 1961, the Hanover Conservancy, New Hampshire’s oldest local land trust, has helped conserve more than 2,800 acres in the Hanover area. In this class you will learn the story behind the Conservancy. We’ll discuss why and how certain lands are conserved, including those done in partnership with the Town of Hanover and other land conservation groups.

Classes 1 and 7 will be on Zoom, and classes 2 through 6 will be outdoor hikes at conservation properties, such as Balch Hill Natural Area, Mink Brook Nature Preserve, Greensboro Ridge Natural Area, and more. All hikes will be on established trails, 1-2 miles in length, with some uphill and rocky terrain.

Participants will need to have the physical capability to do these hikes and appropriate hiking gear. For outdoor hikes, we will meet directly at each property. Locations, directions, and carpooling options will be worked out in the first class.

This course will combine lecture and discussion via Zoom with five guided hikes on conserved lands.

September 13 and November 1 sessions will take place on Zoom. All other sessions will take place at various outdoor locations in Hanover, NH. (No class on October 4.)
