The Music of World War II (In-person)
Spring (9 - 13 hours) | Available (Membership Required)
This course will cover the music of World War II and the relationship of the music to the cultural events and trends of that time, a most powerful and unique period in American history. The types of music — some unique to that time — and the noted performers will be described and played. There are many interesting aspects to the music of that period: The role of government, the effect of the music across national boundaries, and the development of new musical forms and their continuation after the war. We will explore them through the popular music of that period.
The class will be offered in-person using YouTube selections. Local musicians will perform their favorites from that period. Participants will be encouraged to contribute the own thoughts and experiences on the topic as well.
This course will consist of discussions between the Study Leader and participants.
