THIS IS THE ZOOM REGISTRATION OPTION FOR THIS COURSE.
This course will offer an in-depth examination of the first five books of the Bible, collectively known as the Torah, the Pentateuch, and/or the Five Books of Moses.
The Torah is considered the foundation of Jewish scripture and the source of Jewish tradition and identity. It contains the core teachings and values of Judaism, including the importance of justice, compassion, and kindness. It also is a rich source of inspiration and guidance for Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike. Its stories and teachings offer insights into the human condition, the nature of God, God’s relationship to humankind, and the meaning of life.
This course will explore this foundational text, delving into its historical context, its literary structure, and its enduring relevance. By exploring its narratives, laws, and themes, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of the Jewish faith and culture, as well as insights into universal human experiences.
Although the text will be from the Hebrew Bible, the discussion will be non-denominational with heavy emphasis placed on Genesis, Exodus, and Deuteronomy.
This course will combine lecture with class discussion.
