Cinderella Translated
Room 109, Rauner Special Collections Library in Webster Hall
How much of translation is actually interpretation? Cinderella, the well-known fairy tale of a neglected orphan who becomes a princess, has been a favorite of the English-speaking world for centuries. However, most of the English versions we know are derived from a 17th-century French translation by Charles Perrault. Join Rachel Starr, Research and Learning Specialist at Dartmouth Libraries, as she compares multiple English translations of Cinderella in an attempt to learn how far our own Cinderella has strayed from Perrault’s original fable.
