The Amazing Fifties in Music (In-person)
Fall (4-8 hours) | Available
The Fifties in popular music was truly an amazing time. Not only were new types of music emerging, but the older types of music—notably country and rhythm and blues—were reaching new and larger audiences. Of course rock ‘n’ roll was the big feature, but smooth pop and even jazz found some new life. New and exciting artists appeared and the burgeoning media brought them forward. And there was the growing population of young people that were quite ready to receive them—and that was us.
We will be covering all if this remarkable musical phenomenon and discussing the various cultural and social happenings through the times. We will be sharing our insights and experiences as well and will be viewing YouTubes to get the full visual impact of the scene. Local performers will be sharing their favorites of the times and bringing their personal take on it all. It should be quite a time.
