Winter (9 - 13.5 hours) | Registration opens 11/24/2025 12:00 AM EST
This course meets on Tuesdays & Thursdays: February 10, 12, 17, 19.
Did you watch the American men’s and women’s curling teams compete at the last Winter Olympics? It’s Olympic time again! Did you think that curling looked like a lot of fun? Here is your chance to learn all about curling and to try your hand at playing the game.
Curling is an ancient game that began in Scotland several hundred years ago, but is now played in many countries — most notably Canada and the U.S. It is a game of skill that many people can pick up quickly, but it takes years to master. Players often compete into their 70s (your instructors are in their 70s) using adaptive techniques and equipment, and many players pick up the game at retirement, which is what your instructors did. The great part is that you can have fun and enjoy playing at any skill level.
The Upper Valley Curling club supplies all equipment for this course; you just need to wear warm clothing and shoes with non-skid soles. In a two-hour session the class will be held mostly on the ice at the Wendell A. Barwood Arena in White River Junction. There will be a small charge to cover the arena rental and the equipment use.
This course will combine lecture with class discussions.
