Rauner Library Tour: Connecting the Past Through Transcription

Special Event | Available (Membership Required)

How would you assist a person who wants to read the 1820s journal of a Dartmouth Medical School student? What if they live in Tasmania and can't travel, or are visually impaired, or only want to know if their ancestor is mentioned in the journal; how would you assist them then? In this session, we will learn how transcribing and indexing Dartmouth's collections makes them accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world, and acts as a bridge through time that connects the transcriber to the writer. Through decoding cursive, interpreting terminology, and uncovering questionable medical practices, attendees will feel like detectives of history.
