Get ready for an afternoon of soul, swagger, and serious Dublin attitude with a screening of The Commitments (1991). This beloved musical comedy follows a group of working-class teens who decide to form a soul band, and end up discovering the power (and chaos) of music, ambition, and community. It’s funny, loud, heartfelt, and packed with unforgettable performances.

Enjoy popcorn and drinks during the screening, then stick around for a post-film discussion led by Tom Urgo, who will dig into the movie’s music, themes, and cultural impact. Whether you’re seeing it for the first time or revisiting a favorite, this is a perfect chance to watch, listen, and talk soul.

After the film, you are welcome to join Tom for dinner at Three Tomatoes. (Attendees are responsible for their own food and drink expenses at the restaurant.) If you plan to join him, please email the Osher office at osher@dartmouth.edu to add your name to our reservation.
