As America’s long-held primacy recedes, the United States faces a defining choice: cease its futile attempt to stop China’s rise, and engage China and the global south/non-aligned countries as powers and partners in a more equitable multipolar world, or cling to a crumbling dominance that history shows leads to conflict and decline. China, unlike the United States, has invested for decades in the deep infrastructure—transportation networks, ports, and human expertise—that now drives its technological and economic ascent.
This course will explore the crossroad at which America now finds itself, strategies for the path ahead and their implications for global stability and America’s future role. Except for the first and last sessions, and their schedules permitting, each class will begin with a conversation with a well-known global business or foreign policy expert.
The course will combine lectures with lively discussion. My intention is always to encourage interaction, enrich your understanding, and ensure you enjoy learning about a headline topic of national importance to America’s future.
(One class session may take place using the HyFlex format.)
