Great Decisions 2026 (HyFlex: In-person)

This is the in-person registration option for this course!

During this eight-week course we will explore some of the great foreign policy issues of the day Each week, participants will focus their broad range and depth of life knowledge and experience on one of eight current foreign policy topics furnished by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA) and outlined in the required reading. At the beginning of each session, a guest expert will give a presentation on the week’s topic. Following the presentation there will be a vigorous but controlled discussion of the background and options leading to positions on U.S. policy.

This year’s topics include:

  1. America and the World: Trump 2.0 Foreign Policy
  2. Trump Tariffs and the Future of the World Economy
  3. U.S.-China Relations
  4. Ruptured Alliances and the Risk of Nuclear Proliferation
  5. Ukraine and the Future of European Security
  6. Multilateral Institutions in a Changing World Order
  7. U.S. Engagement of Africa
  8. The Future of Human Rights and International Law

This is an eight-session course (20 hours total).

Sanders, John
John Sanders

John is Dartmouth Class of 1964. He practiced cardiac surgery at Northwestern University Medical School and DHMC for 40 years. This is John’s tenth year as co-leader of “Great Decisions.”

 

Wooster, Jim
Jim Wooster

Jim received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, and an MS degree in Engineering and Business Administration (the Tuck-Thayer Program). After serving in the Navy, he had a career with New England Telephone and NYNEX. Jim has been co-leader of the “Great Decisions” course for the past 26 years.
