Ever wonder what can be done about all these scam attempts? Losses increase yearly, and older Americans lose far more than younger age groups. In 2026, criminals have added AI deepfake technologies to their tried-and-true methods of phishing, smishing, and quishing.

This follow-up to “Protecting Ourselves from Hackers and Scammers” expands the focus to include the often-overlooked risk of fraud perpetrated by friends, family, or caretakers. Students will learn to identify scams, discuss prevention strategies, and develop personal threat models to protect money, privacy, and decision-making. Required readings (2-3 articles per week) prepare participants for interactive lectures and short videos.

The course is ideal for seniors, caregivers, and anyone committed to safeguarding financial and personal security, providing practical tools to implement and share in daily life as we try to age wisely.

This course will combine lecture with robust class discussions.
