Amy Beach (1867-1944): A Neglected Composer With New Hampshire Roots (In-person)

Summer (3 to 6.5 hrs) | Available (Membership Required)

Amy Beach was a brilliant composer of classical music and was the first American woman to compose a symphony performed by a major orchestra. Sadly, her music was all but forgotten until quite recently. This course will discuss Beach's fascinating personal history, present video selections of some of her compositions, and review her extensive ties to New Hampshire. We will also consider some of the reasons her music has not received the attention it deserves.

This course will combine lectures with class discussions.
