Justice Tina Nadeau will describe an alternative approach to incarcerating offenders with addiction: Drug courts. Drug Courts have been analyzed for more than 20 years and the conclusion is clear: Jail and prison do not change behavior or addiction but drug courts can and do. The origins of drug courts and their success in addressing opioid and other addictions -- one of the nation’s (and New Hampshire’s) most critical social problems -- will be the focus of this annual Osher lecture.

The Hon. TINA NADEAU, of Lee, NH, daughter of a retired jurist and Dartmouth grad, was appointed Chief Justice of the New Hampshire Superior Court by Gov. John Lynch in 2011. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1985 and her law degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center, now the University of New Hampshire Law Center. She is a board member of the New England Association of Drug Court Professionals as well as non-profit New Futures organization that works to prevent and reduce alcohol and other drug problems in New Hampshire.
