The book The Boys In The Boat, by Daniel James Brown, has topped The New York Times bestseller list for 112 weeks and counting. Rowers and non-rowers alike have thrilled to this story. Drawing on the popularity of the book, the course will discuss the history of rowing, its art and its development - highlighting its role in today’s world of sport. The love of rowing reminds us of The Wind and the Willows, where Rat and Mole delighted spending time “simply messing about in boats.” Rat takes Mole for a ride in his rowing boat on the English river Thames. The course will visit the races on the English Thames and the Thames at New London Connecticut, and more generally discuss one of the oldest of sports.
