What accounts for the huge popularity of the Broadway Musical Hamilton? In this course, we’ll learn about the fascinating, dramatic, and all-too-short life of Alexander Hamilton (the least well-known Founding Father); about Lin-Manual Miranda, the author of all the music, lyrics, and lines of the musical; and the story of the musical itself, how it came about, what went into making it, and where it is going!

We’ll see many YouTube videos which show parts of the musical itself, interviews with cast members, and even a video one cast member has done of the opening night at the Richard Rogers Theatre. We’ll also see slides of Hamilton’s life and times from paintings of the era.

There are no required texts for this course.
