In 2010, after the publication of Nemesis, Philip Roth announced that this would be his last book. Lucky for us, no American writer has been at once as prolific and as good. In this course we will read three prize-winning books – Goodbye, Columbus (1959, the National Book Award), American Pastoral (1997, The Pulitzer Prize), and The Human Stain (2000, the Pen/Faulkner Award). This will be a discussion course with considerable reading: 100+ pages per week. Whether you are a Roth lover or just a curious reader, this class is for you.

  • There are required texts for this course.
