Born into a family of great wealth, Patty Hearst became a teenage rebel, a poster child of the early 1970’s, a terrorist, a convicted felon, and then - after leaving jail - she began to re-start her life. This is her incredible story. The story will be told within the context of Patty’s powerful family; the Vietnam protest era; the UC Berkeley revolutionary cauldron; the emergence of a ragtag Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) group; the media frenzy that her kidnapping created; her crimes and year on the lam as an SLA guerilla while on the top of the FBI’s “Most Wanted” list; her circus-like trial led by swaggering defense attorney F. Lee Bailey; the largest police shootout in American history; and the toxic mix of sex, booze, and drugs that fed the flames throughout. We will end by revealing what she has been doing since her release from prison.
Was she “brainwashed” by her captors or was she a willing criminal? That question is at the core of the story.
