Learn to play this Chinese tile game in which four players, in competition with each other, duplicate set hands from the Official Hands and Rules card of the National Mah Jongg League, Inc. Mah Jongg games can be found wherever one may travel. Many senior centers or recreation centers host games, as do friends and neighbors. Betting is an accepted part of the Mah Jongg game but is not allowed by OSHER@Dartmouth guidelines.

  • There is no required reading packet for this course. Participants must purchase the National Mah Jongg League’s official 2018 card from their website. This card costs $9.00.

Mary Ann Holbrook arrived in Hanover, NH, coming from Baltimore, MD, in 1963. Her children were raised in Hanover. She practiced nursing for 20 years at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. She became an Osher member in 2001 and was chair of the Membership Committee, responsible for many social functions, including the organization’s 20th anniversary party. She led a travel group to Spain and has taught Mah Jongg for several terms. She is currently a curator for the OSHER@Dartmouth Art Gallery.
