In this course we will explore together how the two major poles of Americans (Individual Liberty and the Common Good) might find shared interests. Reading the book, American Character: A History of the Epic Struggle between Individual Liberty and the Common Good by Colin Woodward will increase our understanding of the many competing cultures within our nation. His conclusion will be the focal point of our dialogue and discussion.
