Poets of the Piano: The Cosmopolitan Pianist is a lecture-recital celebrating the magic and poetry of piano music that transcends the instrument. The music on this program explores how composers expressed national identity in their music: either as natives, immigrants, or travelers having absorbed an exotic style. Behind each great piece, there is a story that will enrich your experience and open your ears to new possibilities. A 45-minute lecture is followed by an hour long concert.

Pianist Nathan Carrette will perform the following program:

The Star-Spangled Banner
Francis Scott Key (1779 – 1843)
Arr. Leopold Godowsky (1870 – 1938)

Italian Concerto, BWV 971
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750)

Variations on a Greek Folk Tune
Dinos Constantinidies (*1929)

Four Mazurkas, op.24
Frederic Chopin (1810 – 1849)

Variations on an Ancient Korean Melody
Quentin Kim (*1976)

Spanish Rhapsody
Franz Liszt (1811 – 1886)
