After two years of construction, adding fifty percent more floor space to their sixteen new galleries, the Hood Museum of Art is now open. We celebrate this renovation by observing how architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien incorporated the existing 1985 Charles Moore museum with the present building’s new and inviting spatial features. This expansion allows viewers to have an object-based learning experience, with 65,000 comprehensive works displaying a unique global vision of various media and historical cultures. We will tour and familiarize ourselves with the museum through a thematic approach, discussing selected artwork that depicts our visual relationship to the natural world. This course will reinforce the Hood Museum’s mission statement of making an intimate connection through direct contact with art.
