This course will cover the following topics:

Chamber Music of Brahms - A walk-through of Johannes Brahms’ diverse ensemble combinations, from piano and strings, to horns and harp, to the richness of the string quintets and sextets, as well as his soulful and melancholy late works for the clarinet.

Concertos Every Which Way - Double, triple, and quadruple concertos; the possibilities are numerous, from Vivaldi to Bartok. They include the Beethoven Triple, Brahms Double concertos, as well as lesser known but equally exhilarating works by Mendelssohn and Schumann.

The White Album, aka ‘The Beatles’ - 50+ years on! - The recently released remix from the 50th anniversary edition also includes original demos and outtakes from rehearsal sessions. Contrary to what we’ve been told, the Fab Four were actually getting along quite well as they created this legendary double LP.

The Art of a Great Conductor - Maestro George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra set the high standard for orchestral playing with energetic precision and a sound that was transparent yet dynamic. We will sample his vast and diverse discography, from Haydn to Prokofiev.

Mozart’s Last Year - A look at 1791, a busy and astonishingly prolific year for Mozart. During this time he composed two quintets, two concertos, two operas, and an incomplete requiem.
