Author and publishing professional Sonja Hakala maintains there is no one-size-fits-all way for authors to publish their work. Different publishing goals, different budgets, and different circumstances call for unique strategies. But contemporary publishing bears no resemblance at all to what an author faced ten years ago. In this world of ebooks, internet selling, digital printing, self-publishing, independent publishing and all the rest, what would William Shakespeare do?
Based on her extensive experience in publishing as a writer, editor, book designer and publisher, Sonja Hakala has put together a three-part workshop that shines a bright light on the advantages and disadvantages of each of the major publishing options for contemporary writers, including:

• Independent publishing
• Using the services of a self-publishing company
• Private publishing
• Traditional publishing
• Electronic publishing

New in the course is an in-depth section on editing as well as information on marketing your work. This workshop is a great introduction to the whirling world of contemporary publishing and what it means for writers who want to see their work in the hands of readers

Hakala, Sonja

Sonja Hakala is a professional writer. Her work has appeared in newspapers and magazines, and she is the author of several books including novels and non-fiction. After working as a marketing manager for a Vermont book publisher, Sonja began working with authors around the world to produce and independently publish their own work. She writes and publishes a new story each week on her blog (www.SonjaHakala.com), and her favorite type of book to read with a cup of tea has always been a mystery novel.
