American popular music has offered us more than a hundred years of amazing and diverse riches. And group singing has contributed much to that gift. We will be listening to and discussing the various contributions of singing groups—from barbershop to the Ink Spots, doo-wop groups, Manhattan Transfer (and even some gospel)—to see how the music developed and reflected the culture and vibrancy of America. We will be viewing YouTube and will have local performers share their favorites with us.

  • Required: proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test for those attending in-person courses. Masks will remain mandatory for anyone participating in any in-person course.

Individuals are fully vaccinated 14 days after their final dose in a COVID-19 vaccine series. Accepted COVID-19 vaccines are those that received full approval or emergency use authorization by the FDA.

You must present proof one of three ways before course begins:

    1. Present vaccination cards and a photo ID to an Osher staff member.
    2. Download Bindle app and generate an entry pass for Dartmouth College.
    3. Present negative test results before each class.

Daley, Ford

Ford’s interest in non-classical music started in childhood. He loves to share musical experiences and ideas and its impact on our lives. He sings and plays guitar, harmonica, and Dobro.

Paul is a life-long singer and has vast knowledge of secular and religious music. He performs with the Lyme Church Choir, the choral group “Full Circle,” the Doo-Wop group “The Charades,” and as tenor for the “Pawley Daley Duo.”

Julia has always been in love with music. She has performed most of her life, as a Whipple Hill Gang member, and is now half of “Daley With Julia.”
