Travelling on waterways offers a variety of adventurous trips. Canoeing or rafting on streams in remote areas features visiting scenic places, encountering wildlife, and the pleasures and discomforts of camping out. River boat travel is popular. One can sample a whole country or region in a week or two. Coastal cruising on larger ships allows for visits to historic and cultural sites.

Using digital images of various trips, this new Armchair Travel course will take us on river trips to northern Maine, the Salmon River in Idaho, the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, and streams and rivers in Canada and Alaska. Our river boat travels will be on the Rhone River in Europe and the Mekong River in Indochina. Norway, Croatia, and the British Isles will comprise coastal cruises, and ocean trips will include a transatlantic cruise and visits to islands in the South Pacific. Information sheets will also be prepared to familiarize participants with these intriguing destinations.
