Duos and Duets in American Popular Music (In-Person)

Fall (9 - 13 hours) | Available (Membership Required)

Group singing has been a mainstay of American music forever, but the phenomenon of duos has been relatively recent — in popular music only since the ‘forties. But it has contributed mightily to our listening experience. Some duos have had long associations, and of course there have been duets — the songs — that are legendary. We will cover their history by listening to the most popular ones — and maybe some not so popular — and will trace the development of both duos and duets and what they tell us about our times and our fashions. We will have local performers come to entertain us with their favorites and share what the music means to them.

This course will combine lecture with class discussions.
