Heart and Soul of the Cornish Colony (In-person)

Fall (14 hours or more) | Available (Membership Required)

This course focuses on the artwork and primary source material that best reveals what was most precious to the over forty founding members of the Cornish Colony.

In its halcyon and most artistically productive years, 1884-1916, Little New York (as they called their community) was a vibrant society of families and friends who were exceptional artists, writers, musicians, and patrons. Our primary focus is the art, journals, and essays of the women of the Colony, including Lydia Parrish, Frances Houston, Lucia Fairchild Fuller, Maria Oakey Dewing, Laura Marquand Walker, Rose Nichols, Ellen Shipman, Bessie Vonnoh, Margaret Shurcliff, Frances Duncan, and Frances Grimes.

This course will include lecture and discussions; class participants are encouraged to explore primary source materials suggested by the Study Leader
