Not If But How: Proposals to Reform Social Security (Zoom)

Fall (4-8 hours) | Available (Membership Required)

The end is nigh for 20% of Social Security: The Congressional Budget Office projects that in less than 10 years the program will be able to pay retirees only 80% of their scheduled benefits. For some, this cut would be inconvenient; for the 40% of retirees who rely on Social Security for most of their income, it would be disastrous.

Since politicians’ pledges never to cut Social Security cannot be redeemed at the grocery store, the program will have to change, one way or the other. This course explores the leading proposals to restore Social Security to financial solvency, including the financial consequences for different groups of people.

This course will combine lecture with class discussions.
