The History of American Skiing Through the Dartmouth Skiing Lens (In-person)

Fall (9 - 13 hours) | Available (Membership Required)

This highly popular course will take you through the history of both Dartmouth and American skiing. We will look at it’s origins, from the turn of the century all the way to today. We will cover all of the ski sports with its heroes and its crashes. It’s a honest view of how we arrived at today, as both Dartmouth and U.S. skiing squads are amongst the best in the world. The class features a lecture type format, rounded out by interviews of ski racers from many eras. It’s also loaded with plenty of slides and videos.

This course will combine lecture with class discussions.

Peter Graves

Peter Graves, an Upper Valley resident and Vermont native, will lead the way on our skiing history journey. He is a former racer, who turned his attention more than fifty years ago to broadcasting and PA announcing. He has announced at 13 Olympic Games, both summer and winter, starting with his noteworthy coverage of the 1980 Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid for ABC Sports. Later, he became one of the lead announcers for skiing for ESPN, the Outdoor Life Network (OLN), and NBC Sports.
