Widespread publicity about many aspects of race make it almost impossible to ignore the impact of racism in the United States. White supremacy, a phrase that was previously used to describe only extreme, overt bigotry, has found its way into mainstream conversation about race. Increased understanding about systemic racism and its impact on almost every aspect of life in the USA has created a need for developing cultural competency in talking about race and racism. This course will use So You Want To Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo as a framework for increasing understanding about both personal biases and systemic racism, with a goal of contributing to the fight against racial oppression.
