This highly technical course focuses on development of painting techniques in oil, water-based oil, and acrylics while forming your personal vision. We will use your favorite photos as the basis for figurative, landscape, or still life ideas. This is not a class in photo-realism. The class will emphasize fundamental concerns of the craft of painting – understanding color theory and paint mixing, painting tools, surfaces and supports, toned grounds, and the various techniques of impasto, glazing, wet-into-wet, and final varnishes. Basic ideas on how to begin a painting using drawing techniques for transferring the image from the photo to the canvas will be demonstrated. Basic training in painting is a prerequisite. Instructor permission required.
