Rosa E. Colón, a 1985 graduate of Colombia’s Jorge Tadeo Lozano University (Interior Decoration), engaged in the study of Architectural Expression at the National University of Colombia while taking private classes in oil painting. Colón, who emigrated to the U.S. in 2000 where she was immersed in art education under the direction of Florence-trained master artist Enzo Russo, participated in mixed media/collage classes at Norwalk Community College. Her work has been featured in a medley of solo and group exhibitions throughout the tri-state area’s galleries, corporations and universities since 2002 and she has curated several shows including Hispanic Heritage Month’s at Shackler Gallery, “Flower Perfume” Arte Inc. art gallery in New Haven. She has conducted a series of art workshops, been a contest juror for art competitions, and has donated her work to several social and civic organizations including, but not limited to Literacy Volunteers, Laurel House, Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut and the Beardsley Zoo. Her floral-themed portrayals blossom with the passion and praise of nature as connoted by her familial roots, national origin and her inextricable linkage to and engagement with her natural surroundings. Her skill captures significant moments inspired by her fascination with nature’s multifarious forms, labyrinthine shapes and vibrant colors. Her work, which primarily features oils, watercolors, pressed flowers and leaves; embodies a multihued, hyperrealist style that emphasizes her character and personality. She is currently a member of the board of the Stamford Art Association, member of the Loft Artists Association, Old Greenwich Art Society; a private art teacher-mentor, watercolor art instructor at Stamford Public Schools’ Office of Adult & Continuing Education.
